Reuse yum data

yum by default deletes all the downloaded packages after installation

the path where it caches is /var/cache/yum//packages

packages might reside in diff dirs according to the repos downloaded
from.

1.you can look in this dir while the downloading is going on.
one solution would be to copy all the packages while the downloading
is complete
and the installation is running.But this has to be done very quickly


2.there's a plugin for yum called downloadonly .when specified yum
doesnot
delete the packages after installtion.

$yum install vlc --downloadonly

so the packages could then be copied from the cache dir later

3.other elegant soution would be to edit the conf file of yum
(beauty)
i.e. /etc/yum.conf and add a parameter as

keepcache=1

this would do the same as in sol 2 , without any extra arguments.

yesterday i got placed in Infosys!!!

i knew 'kabhi na kabhi kahin na kahin to hona hi hai..' so it wasn't too big an excitment for me
i wasn't sure about the company initially. i just wanted to sit for the written examination

i filled the form with pencil, as my pen ended up in middle.
then again brrowed a pen from an employee. so application looked very clumsy...:)


written test.
two parts
quantitative 30 questions 40 mins
verbal ability 40 questions 35 mins



What happend in interview...

me: good afternoon sir
him:take out your resume
(took out my resume)
him:sign on this sheet
(signed with probable time)
him: what did you write ,its 4:35 now.
me: ok sir.
him: ok! what does your father do.
(told him about my parents)
him: do you have any brothers or sisters?
(gave him the answer properly)
him: why did you fill your application with pencil?
(conviced him why)
him :Oh! youu got 3rd rank in your state
me : Yeah ..
(dont think it was a 'Yes')
him: why did you opt for this NIT?
me :because this was 4th best NIT at that time according to India today
(he must be laughing in his mind to this answer)

him: what is you final project
me: its on clusting
him: tell me about it
me: explaned him details
(no completely convinced)
him: what are the merits and demerits of this project?
(told him few)

him: where did you do your industrial training ?
me: i did it under our HOD sir in college
him: how can you do an industrial training in college
me: i wanted to some research work with our HOD so i chose the project
him: have you ever visited any industry ever
me: yes sir i did a industry training after 2nd yr on web development.
him: which company?
me: it was wonderstyx , at delhi they had a social networking site and we had to integrate that with orkut and facebook

him :you were an organiser for opengeest?
me : yes sir,I was head for an open source event at the techfest techniti 09 at NIT jalandhar.
him :what did you exactly do as an organiser?
me :contacted cheif guests and arranged sponsors for the event .
(was a really sloppy explanation)
him :but what was your role as an organiser.
(what was i supposed to say?I gave the same answer)
him :you play foot ball
me: ya
him: which position?
me: i dont play in the college team
him: you play it for fun..
me: yes sir , just with friends
him: theere must be some position even if you play it ....
(interupted him)
me: yes sir i play forword
him: sure?
me: yes sir
him: ook then how many players are behind you when play
(simple question, but thought there would be some typical answer)
me(getting an excuse): we dont play with a std 11 player team so there may be 5-6 players behind me.
(not even close to the correct answer)

him: you like music and play guitar
me: yes sir
him: what do you like, listening to music or playing?
(dont know why he asked this question?)
(but the peon saved me coming witha water bottle)
(got some time to think of an answer)
me: i like all kinds of music, from classical to rock music
him: what kind of songs do you play?
me: i play songs which are easy, as im still learning, i started playing guitar in first year.
him: which songs?
me: songs of kishore kumar, kailash kher.
him: you have participated in atheletics ..
me: yeah i have participated
him: just participated huhh, which event?
me: it was 5km race
him: like a marathon
me: yes sir

(now comes the punch)
him: what appears from your resume that you have entered those just to make your resume inpressive...
(nothing to say)
(smiles )
him: ok! tell me an incident that might have occured to you at any point of time from your schooltime to here at NIT,
in which you must have faced some sort of resistance that you got through or passed with FLYING colors.
(what was this roadies interview?)
(bit of a awkward pause)
me(speaking boldly):just after techniti(techfest) we did strike against the college,i dont think i should mention about that here
(no expression , it was embarassing talking about strike)
him: anything else you want to ask?
me :is there any scope for R&D in infosys
him: infosys is a consultancy company, we make softwares as the client demands.
me :fine..
him: anything else
me :no,
him: you can go now
me :thank you sir


(finished in may be 10-15 mins)
